A Specialist Technology School

Quintin Kynaston was first designated as a Specialist Technology School in 2001 and successfully re-designated in 2008. Our Technology School status means that we try to raise standards across the whole curriculum but especially in the specialist subject areas of design technology, mathematics, science and information technology (IT).

Quintin Kynaston was first designated as a Specialist Technology School in 2001 and successfully re-designated in 2008. Our Technology School status means that we try to raise standards across the whole curriculum but especially in the specialist subject areas of design technology, mathematics, science and information technology (IT).

QK has a commitment to ensuring that all students are taught in the most technologically advanced environment possible - we have over 1000 computer terminals including Apple Mac's and every classroom has an interactive whiteboard. Excellent video-conferencing facilities allow us to bring experts from across the globe right into the school and for students to take part in worldwide conferences and debates. Science uses data logging equipment extensively and flexicams allow detailed views of demonstration experiments. QK is a leading edge school for London's VLE (virtual learning environment) where students are able to log into their classrooms with full access to teaching materials from anywhere in the world and can talk directly to their teachers and classmates.

We also reach out to the local community in order to help increase skill levels (particularly in our specialist subjects) across all ability and age ranges. We work closely with local schools. Since becoming a Specialist Technology school, hundreds of adults have improved their computer literacy, cooking and woodwork skills at QK while several active parent’s groups benefit from our IT facilities. We have forged great links and partnerships with local universities and businesses which provide students with enrichment opportunities and our partners with support for some of their key objectives.

Initiatives throughout the year to promote technology and the specialist subjects and annual events to showcase and celebrate the schools achievements include:

  • Architects in Residence Competition
  • Community Week
  • Robotics competition in USA (in partnership with the American School in London)
  • Technology Exhibition
  • Technology Fair & BBQ (Crest Awards)
  • Technology Summer School
  • Youth Engineering Project (in collaboration with London Underground)
