Key Stage 4

Media Studies is about the ways in which moving images (films and television), print (magazines, newspapers, etc) and new media (internet and videogames) are constructed to create meaning for audience.

In this course students develop skills to analyse media texts. They gain an understanding of how media texts are produced, they will find out who owns media companies and will learn how our ideas and beliefs can be shaped by media images and messages.

Students study:

  • Textual analysis techniques—how to 'deconstruct' print or moving image texts and their meanings
  • Cross-media topics such as advertising or news
  • Media languages, producers and production techniques
  • Production techniques and technical skills including digital technology
  • Media studies students have the opportunity to take part in activities such as trips to TV and film studios, cinema and museum visits, and QK film screenings.
