Geography

Current Developments

As a department we are excited to be undertaking two new examination boards this year. Geography GCSE is changing to a new and modern syllabus which encompasses all the exciting elements of physical Geography such as Tectonics and Ecosystems with the modern and influential elements of human Geography; Tourism and World Development.

Coursework is also changing. Although it is still worth 25% of the full Geography GCSE it will be completed in a controlled environment, giving pupils much more independence on their work, with the intention of developing their skills for the future.

A Level Geography is also undergoing a transformation. Our current year 12s have successfully completed their A/S studies of the new AQA syllabus and are ready to embark on their new A2 studies. The course includes both the exciting elements of Physical Geography and Human Geography and students are encouraged to think about how these different elements may interact and affect the development of the world.

Beyond QK

The QK Geography department has also run extremely successful trips to Spain over the last 7 years and we intend to continue and develop these field trips to suit the needs of the new specifications. We believe that fieldwork is an integral part of students’ development in Geography, and that learning can take place outside of the classroom, as well as inside.
