Key Stage 4

This qualification is suitable for students that would like a career in health and social care. Throughout the course you will:

  • Learn about health and social care
  • Develop skills, knowledge and understanding that will help you to progress
  • You will be able to progress from OCR National Certificate in Health and Social Care.
  • You could start work as a trainee care assistant
  • Enter employment and undertake a related NVQ, for example, NVQ Care or NVQ Early Years Care and Education.

What does it cover?

You will complete 6 units

Mandatory Units

  • Unit 1 Preparing to give quality care
  • Unit 2 Communicating with service users in care settings
  • Unit 3 Practical caring
  • Unit 4 Hygiene and safety in care settings

Optional Units

There are 10 units from which you will choose two, these include:

  • Health care for children
  • Practical first aid in care settings
  • Nutrition and cooking for health
  • Health care for older service users
  • Development and care of young children
  • Preparing to work with older service users
  • Creative activities with individuals in care settings
  • Career planning for the health and social care sectors
  • Work experience in health and social care settings
  • Preparing to work with people with disabilities

How is the OCR National Certificate in Health and Social Care?

  • There are no exams!
  • Your work will be assessed by your teachers.
  • The work will then be checked by the examining board.
