ICT

Information & Communications Technology (ICT) is a thriving, popular and extremely successful subject which all students study throughout Key Stages 3 and 4 and can continue in the Sixth Form. Students studying the Applied ICT or the new BTEC in IT at sixth form can apply for enrolment in the Career Academy.

Highlights of 2011 Results

  • 97% of students achieved Level 5 or higher by the end of Key Stage 3
  • 90% gained grade A*-C for their ICT GCSE (DIDA) in Year 11

Development in coming years

We welcome Mr El-Moudden who joined us in the summer and will contribute his considerable teaching experience in IT at all key stage levels.

The department is extremely excited about the introduction of the brand new BTEC A level in IT which will be the main course taught at KS5. Ms Smith is developing a varied and challenging curriculum for students to progress from their GCSEs.

We have also introduced the Microsoft Academy course which allows students in Year 9 to complete a GCSE by becoming confident users of Microsoft Office software.

The ICT faculty is currently working with the Opening Minds faculty to develop a new and exciting curriculum for Year 7 students. Students in Year 7 will continue to follow the ICT National Curriculum but the course will include exciting links to other subjects such as Humanities. Year 8 will follow next year.

Beyond QK

The Faculty has close links with the UK Career Academy Foundation for the Academy of ICT.

Our Primary Links Co-ordinator, Clifford Ponde, will continue to work with Primary Schools to teach ICT topics in an informative yet fun way. The teaching will either happen at the primary school or students at the primary school may come to QK School to use the latest software available at our school.
