Term 5 – Environmental problems and lifestyles

Unit 1: Listening and Understanding in French – 20%

Foundation Tier: 25 minutes + 5 minutes reading time
Higher Tier: 35 minutes + 5 minutes reading time

Unit 2: Speaking in French

The focus of the speaking unit will be chosen by you and your teacher and will relate to one or more of the following themes:

  • Media and culture
  • Sport and travel
  • Travel and tourism
  • Business, work and employment

You will be assessed on two speaking activities – an open interaction, a picture-based discussion or a presentation with discussion following. You will have up to six hours’ teaching time (within a maximum of two weeks) to prepare for your speaking assessment. Each task should last between 4-6 minutes.

Unit 3: Reading and Understanding in French – 20%

Foundation Tier: 35 minutes
Higher Tier: 50 minutes

Unit 4: Writing

Students should have up to six hours’ teaching time (within a maximum of two weeks) to prepare for their writing assessment. Students may refer to their notes and a dictionary, although access to an earlier draft or an online grammar or spellchecker is prohibited. The work should be completed in two sessions of up to one hour each.

Term 3 – Le monde du travail

  • Recognising jobs
  • Saying what jobs you do at home and what jobs you would like to do in the future
  • Being able to talk about your work experience
  • Focus on French companies and their roles
  • ASSESSMENT: February 2011 - Past paper (listening and reading)

Term 4 – L’environnement et le mode de vie

  • Discussing world issues and saying how you can help
  • Talking about problems in your area
  • Talking about a healthy lifestyle
