The Department for Student Support and Curriculum Development

The Department for Student Support and Curriculum Development is headed by Ruth Browne as Head of Department and Aline Savalle as Deputy Head of Department. Its aim is to ensure all students are supported in reaching their full potential regardless of any barriers to learning that they may face. The three main areas managed by the Department are: the Learning Support Centre, Key Stage 4 study Room and Asdan CoPE course.

The Learning Support Centre (LSC) is a short term provision which aims to promote positive behaviour in pupils at risk of exclusion from mainstream lessons. Students are taught the mainstream curriculum in a small group by specialist teachers, but also benefit from sessions such as anger management and weekly reflection sessions. The aim of the LSC is to support students in addressing and improving their behaviour to allow them to return successfully to mainstream lessons.

The Key stage 4 Study Room is a provision designed to ensure GCSE students reach their full potential by providing a small, safe environment for students to catch up on work and access further support with coursework.

The department is also responsible for the delivery of an Asdan course: 'Certificate of Personal Effectiveness' or CoPE. The CoPE course aims to enhance student's self-esteem, aspirations and independence as they develop the key skills necessary to be successful in college, work or university. These skills, such as problem solving and working as a team are assessed and submitted in a portfolio as evidence of student's personal achievements.

The department works with a range of outside agencies such as the Marlborough Family Service and YISP (Youth Inclusion Support Panel) to provide a multi-agency approach to learning and ensure all student's needs are met.
