Dyslexia

QK is working with the University of Westminster to improve the learning opportunities of students with dyslexia, dyspraxia or dyscalculia.

Email Project Officer Shareen Taylor or call her on extension 174 for more about the Project or if you wish to visit the Information Hub.

Information Hub

A well resourced area provides information for students and guardians, parents and teachers. Our strategies are based on the notions that individual learning styles and multi-sensory methods of teaching affect how an individual is able to learn.

After-school Workshops

Students are invited from Years 7 to 10 discover how their learning styles affect their in-class abilities. They become familiar with strategies and skills that help make their learning easier.

Sessions for parents look at a "lifelong learning agenda" for their children and explain how encouragement can help their children to learn successfully and develop their own learning skills.

Student Ambassadors

Undergraduates from the University of Westminster who have been diagnosed as dyslexic come to QK to tell their life stories. They are invaluable role models - demonstrating that that they able to learn and achieve to a high level despite the differences they face.

Multi-sensory Teaching

Workshops for QK staff on multi-sensory teaching introduce strategies in lessons so that students can successfully access the curriculum and aspire to the Sixth Form and beyond. These sessions are based on the work of the Achieve Ability Network. Read specifically about the QK & AA Partnership.
