Careers

Careers Education and Guidance is delivered in a variety of ways within the school.

Robert Deane is our careers adviser in the school provided by Connexions. Working closely with teachers and Student Support staff he provides careers guidance interviews with students from year 9 into the 6th form with particular emphasis on year 11 students who are in their final year of compulsory education and students with special educational needs and those taking vocational courses. He is available at parent’s evenings, progress reviews and by appointment to meet parents and carers.

There is a Connexions Resource Centre located in the QK Library where we have information on 100s of careers, employment, apprenticeships, colleges and universities which is accessible and well used by all students. In year 7 students are introduced to these resources and reinforced by follow up sessions in year 9. All computers in the Library and adjacent study rooms are loaded with CASCAID interactive careers programmes - Streets Ahead, KUDOS and Careerscape Multimedia. Students are introduced to these programmes as part of the SPACE programme in years 9 and 10 and then encouraged to use them for their own individual research.

The internet is now the major source of careers information as well as general information for young people. www.centrallondonconnexions.org.uk contains links to Jobs4u careers database, UCAS for Higher Education, Choice for London post 16 courses at 6th forms and colleges, LOIS for London Job Vacancies for young people, Careers Box for film clips and many more. Information on 6th form courses in Westminster is contained in www.6f.org.uk.

In collaboration with James Flitcroft the school work-related learning co-ordinator Robert Deane also arranges special careers events (e.g. year 11 industry morning in November), visits to colleges and off-site careers events and supports the school careers education programme delivered through SPACE and enrichment days through providing advice, ideas and resources for teachers.

You can email Robert Deane or he can be contacted by students or their parents/carers on 020 7722 8141 x166. He is based in the library 3 days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays).
