Internal assessments for GCSE, GCE, BTEC and NVQ in the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) are coursework, portfolios or projects marked in schools that are then sent to Examination Boards.
Quintin Kynaston School is committed to ensure that:
- Internal assessments are conducted by staff who have the appropriate knowledge, understanding and skills.
- Work provided by students is produced and assessed according to the requirements of the relevant specifications.
- The consistency of internal assessment is assured through internal standardisation as set out by the Examination Boards.
- Staff responsible for internal standardisation and assessment attend any compulsory training sessions organised by the Examination Boards.
Guidance
At any stage during an examination course, students or parents who have concerns about the school's internal assessment procedures can make a formal appeal. Please be aware that you can only appeal about the procedures, not the actual marks or grades submitted to an Examination Board.
Students, parents or guardians wishing to appeal against a procedure should contact the Exams Officer (in person, by phone, post or email) as soon as possible to discuss this. Appeals must be made in writing and received by Friday 20th May 2011.
On receipt of a written appeal, an enquiry will be conducted by the Exams Officer and the relevant Deputy Head-teacher into whether the internal assessment procedure conformed to the published requirements of the Examination Board. Appellants will be informed (in writing) of the outcome of the appeal, including details of any relevant communication with the Examination Board and of any steps taken to protect the interests of all students.
