Cross-curricular, web-based, artwork & imaging research project with an interactive multimedia presentation about the research findings. The final presentation must include primary sources - i.e. original images & sound captured by the students.
Term 3
Modelling & presenting numeric data. Choose from:
- pets
- technology in the home
- mobile phones
Term 4
Multimedia Flash animation & music editing project. Students use these tools to refine and enhance their e-portfolios.
Term 5
Create a viral ad/news report which publicises QK School to teenagers.
Term 6
Control & monitoring: LOGO project
Year 8
Completing 2 units over 2 years (into year 9) – This work is worth 1 GCSE.
Unit of study: ICT Skills for Business and Webpage/Graphics creation
Assessment of OCR Nationals is 100% portfolio based meaning no exams!
OCR Nationals Level 2 Outline:
The OCR Level 2 Nationals in ICT have been developed to recognise candidates' skills, knowledge and understanding of Information and Communication Technology functions, environments and operations.
They have been designed to accredit candidates' achievements in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the workplace. They do not certificate competence on the job but are work-related qualifications which will support progression to an NVQ once a candidate is in the workplace.
These qualifications specifically aim to:
- develop candidates' knowledge and understanding of the Information and Communication Technology sector
- develop candidates' skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations, thereby enhancing their employability within the Information and Communication Technology sector
- develop candidates' ability to work autonomously and effectively in an Information and Communication Technology context
- enable candidates to develop knowledge and understanding in specialist areas of
- Information and Communication Technology, and demonstrate the skills needed to participate in the operation and development of ICT specific or ICT non-specific business organisations
- encourage progression by assisting in the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that candidates will need to access further or higher education programmes or occupational training on a full-time or part-time basis
- encourage progression by assisting in the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that candidates will need to enter employment or enhance their current employment status
- promote interaction between employers, centres and candidates by relating teaching and assessment to real organisations.
Year 9
Terms 1 & 2
Gathering & processing data Global action research project.
Students research a hypothesis to do with climate change/global warming. They set up a database, interrogate it and present their findings using multi-media resources, e.g. a short film about an endangered species.
Terms 3 & 4
QK Talent Show Project
Create a seating plan, financial plan & publicity materials for the QK talent show. Students create a viral ad for the Talent Show and a sequence of instructions for an automated lighting system for the show.
Terms 5 & 6
Create a multi-media guide to the school network using Screencorder - a series of 'how to...' clips which other students will use.
OR
Create an e-portfolio to showcase work produced on years 7,8 and 9 (in preparation for DiDA). Students use Dreamweaver/Word etc. depending on ability.
