GCE Psychology 2009-10

The OCR GCE Psychology course aims to give candidates an introduction to the world of Psychology by conducting research through a practical approach as well as learning about prime psychological studies. Along with the course provides students with an awareness of the issues and debates in Psychology.

The aim of GCE Psychology is to enable students to:

  • Develop their enjoyment and enthusiasm of the subject
  • Develop and demonstrate skills, including practical and research skills
  • Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of the subject and how they relate to each other
  • Recognise the value, use and misuse of Psychology in society

AS Psychology

Two units are studied throughout the AS year:

Unit G541: Psychological investigations which involves a detailed examination of 4 research methods
Unit G542: Core studies which involves a close detailed analysis of 15 core studies

Assessment

Unit G541: 30% of the total GCE marks 1 hour written paper
Unit G542: 70% of the total GCE marks 2 hour written paper

A2 Psychology

Unit G543: Two options are studied from a choice of Forensic Psychology, Health and Clinical Psychology, Psychology of sport and Exercise and the Psychology of Education
G544: Approaches and research methods in Psychology

Assessment

Unit G543: 25% of the total advanced GCE marks 1.5 hour written paper
Unit G544: 25% of the total advanced GCE marks 1.5 hour written paper
