Assessment and Intervention Department

The Department for Assessment and Intervention is headed by Shareen Taylor (Head of Department) and Hayley Parkin (Assistant Head of Department) and is responsible for ensuring that all students learning and educational needs are addressed and supported throughout their time at Quintin Kynaston (QK) School. The department is responsible for ensuring that the needs of students who have a statement of Special Educational Need (SEN) are met, and that recommendations as outlined by the Local Authority (LA) are put into place to ensure student's progress. This includes the management and use of Student Learning Advisors (SLA's) who offer student both in class, and individual and small group support.

The department is also responsible for the assessment of and subsequent intervention for, students with additional and different needs within the school. The department works closely with the Educational Psychology and Speech and Language Therapy Services, as well as the Specialist Advisory Teachers from the LA to ensure that student's needs are met and that all students have the best possible chance of succeeding at QK.

SEN Team that delivers the support:

In addition to the SEN Management team, we have 6 specialist LSAs posts. Post holders lead and support interventions relating to the following areas of specialisation:

  • Specific Learning Differences (SPLD)
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD) at Key Stages 3 & 4
  • Hearing and Visually Impaired (HI/VI) and other sensory and physical disabilities
  • Sixth Form

The key focus is on the delivery of support to students on the Personalised learning Register (PLR), by collating information about them and working in partnership with colleagues to agree and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), facilitate small group or 1:1 withdrawal sessions or support students and teachers in mainstream classrooms. Specialist LSAs will develop and implement their own action plans under management supervision, in order to address this specialist need
