Sixth Form

AS in 1 year or A Level in 2 years

Students build on skills, knowledge and understanding in painting and drawing developed during GCSE but a GCSE Art and Design qualification is not essential. Students are required to present their final artwork and work journals in a whole class presentation. Sketchbook and preparatory studies for each unit are assessed to provide evidence of investigation, experimentation and problem solving.

First Year: AS

  • Unit 1: A Sense of Place - Coursework (30%)
  • Unit 2: The Human Condition - Coursework (30%)
  • Unit 3: 8-hour Practical over two days with 6 week's preparation (40%)

Second Year: A2

AS units (50%) plus

  • Unit 4: Identity - Coursework (15%)
  • Unit 5: Colour and Mood - Coursework (15%)
  • Unit 6: 8-hour Practical over two days with 6 week's preparation (20%)

BTEC First Diploma in 1 year

This course is for creative students who have flair and artistic talent. Visits to London's art galleries, museums, historic buildings and places of interest are an important feature. Students develop their skills in drawing, 2D and 3D making and contextual study and gain a foundation in a wide range of disciplines.

Assessment

Examined by Edexcel
Equivalent to two GCSEs

All coursework (no exam). Each assignment - major pieces of work which may take several weeks to complete - is assessed at the time. A Portfolio of Evidence from these is assessed for the final grade.
